Nissan GTR R35 aluminum offset power steering rack bushings

$299.00

Upgraded turbos take up more space.  When pushing the space confinements of a stock location turbo on your R35 Nissan GTR, you will often find that the steering shaft will interfere with your turbo’s exhaust housing.  We ran into this issue while installing some rather large exhaust housings on our shop car.  With no options on the market, we decided to get creative.

We developed a kit to replace all 4 of your OEM rubber power steering rack bushings with solid aluminum.  Not only do these bushings eliminate any potential movement of the steering rack, they also lower the rack approximately 1/4″ and give you the ability to shift the steering rack up to 1/4″ in any direction.  The result is up to 1/2″ additional clearance between your turbo’s exhaust housing and the steering column shaft.

These bushings are not a press fit, but they will exactly fit the diameter of your steering rack housing.  This will allow you to easily shift the rack only as far as it needs to move, in order to gain clearance.  Once in position, simply lock the 4 OEM rack mounting bolts into position.

TECH NOTES:

  1.  We have not found this to be 100% necessary, but we added an additional safeguard on our shop car to make sure the rack does not shift once bolted down – Drill and tap a hole through your Verkline subframe into the aluminum rack bushings, and install a set screw in at least two of them.  This will give you added stability to keep the steering rack from shifting, in the case of an extreme situation.  Once again, we do not know that this is necessary.  It is simply an added precaution to maintain desired steering geometry.

2.  You will need to align the vehicle once installed, and thread the driver’s tie rod in and passenger tie rod out in order to accommodate the        rack’s new location.  Our shop car noticed ZERO steering or handling change after install and alignment.

3.  You may still need to install an 8mm x1.25 thread buttonhead bolt onto your steering coupler to gain that last bit of clearance from steering shaft to exhaust housing
