Product Description
This is our version 1 upgraded bellhousing that started it all. With over 100 units sold in the past 3+ years, we’ve had a great track record for reliability. While this housing is still available and still a viable option for your GTR, we recommend you check our our V2 housing for comparison before purchase. The V2 offers all of the benefits of this V1, but with the addition of a modified output shaft and flange – To allow the rear driveshaft more room to float, and eliminate the cause of future failures. We will eventually be moving our efforts towards producing only V2 housings, with the V1 being available on a “made to order” basis.
Please read on for more information on this V1 housing:
Benefits of Our Bell Housing
Purchasing an auto part online should never feel like an ordeal. ATR makes it easy for you to know precisely what you are getting. Once the bell housing is installed, you can expect the following benefits right away.
- Hardened steel insert sleeves that eliminate any bearing movement
- Reduced bell housing rattling and noises
- Upgraded Japanese-made Nachi bearing
- Shipped in a reusable box for you to return your core in
Damper Disc
Any damper disc you get from Auto Technology Repair will be used. Auto Technology Repair is unable to supply new damper discs at this time by themselves. However, you have the company’s guarantee that each disc receives careful inspection before going out. Although they may have minor wear and tear, they will still work optimally.
Greater Risk With GT-R R35
Due to its design, the R35 Nissan GT-R has a unique risk for bellhousing failure. From the first GT-Rs in 2008, the bellhousing has always been a weak point due to the separation of engine and transmission. The bell housing is mounted on the back of the engine where it has needed to adapt to a rearward-facing driveshaft going toward the transmission. Nissan was not able to come up with a better design where the transmission was more firmly in place. As a result, there is a chronic push and pull effect between the transmission and engine any time you accelerate or decelerate.
The bell housing is an unfortunate weak link in all of this. The aluminum housing that came with the car is typically incapable of withstanding such strong forces. GT-R drivers can tell when a problem arises because they can hear the bearings rattling around inside the car. Although the professionals at ATR are working to come up with a permanent fix, the upgraded replacement fixture is the best thing right now.
Auto Technology Repair works hard to ensure the new housing has a better chance of staying intact. Auto Technology Repair professionals create oversized bearing holes before pressing the hardened steel sleeve into position. After this is done, our workers replace the bearings with improved Nachi bearings. These components have been specially engineered to hold up to extreme abuse.
Signs of Damaged Bell Housing
A failed, or broken bellhousing will exhibit a rattling noise at idle, while stopped at a red light, and at low speeds. The rattle is caused by the shaft moving around inside a damaged housing.
Warranty
As with any component, it is important to remember that accidents can and will happen. Every bell housing that comes from Auto Technology Repair comes with a 12-month warranty. Only Nissan GT-Rs that go under 800 horsepower qualify for the warranty. In the event anything happens to your bell housing within the first year, we will replace the housing at no cost. We want every driver to have total peace of mind they will not have to spend a ton of money all over again if the bell housing breaks again.
